HEINKEL He.114

In early 1938 a swedish delegation was visiting the Heinkel works in Warnemünde looking for a new torpedo bomber (the He 115) they was also shown the
naval reccon plane He114. The He114 was well liked and it was decided to let the type replace another Heinkel type, Heinkel He5 (known as S5 in Sweden)
and the Hawker Ospreys (S9). The latter was serving on the airplane cruiser Gotland. Twelve He114's was ordered in november 1939.
Another 27 was ordered in 1939-40. However, due to the war none was delivered, and the swedish S12's was taken over by the Luftwaffe.
It wasn't until the spring 1941 that 12 used Heinkels was delivered by train. After being overhauled at CVV in Västerås they were taken on charge at F2,
the last one delivered april 1942. The S12 served very well at the neutrality watch allover the swedish coastline, together with the old He5's instead of replacing
them ! S12 had a relatively short period of service as deliveries of the SAAB S17BS started in late 1942. But due to some initial problems with S17BS
S12 remained on first line duty until early 1944. An offer from Heinkel for six He114 in october 1944 was turned down, as S17BS was at full strenth by this
time. At the wars end there were still seven S12's on charge.
The last four was up for sale to the civilian market in 1948, but only 4008 and 4009 were sold.
Sadly, no example of the Heinkel He114 is preserved in the entire world.
