CLOSET FULL OF CLOTHES LP    (white denim)
"from portland, oregon, usa to manchester, england with six stops in between, 'closet full of clothes' takes the listener on a sonic trip through the wendy's drive-thru and into the earth's core. the harsh, glass-melting blasts of mammal and hair police swelter skulls. the sweet, glorious rock of pearls and brass sit you on a country porch. the hectic, shifty-eyed panic rock of my name is rar rar teeters on top of an acidic percussion bath courtesy of black eyes. nice nice fingerpaint a concerto, while small rocks and doormouse chime like evil grandfather clocks possessed by sammy davis jr. this closet is constantly throbbing with a wide variety of fabrics and textures, yet all possible outfits always end up looking damn good. this 12" long player features unreleased material from all the performing artists." (100kr($12)

LA QUIETE/CATENA COLLAPSE 7"    (heroine/adagio830)
"i was so looking forward to this record because i love both these bands. i started with catena collapse and was completely blown away by how awesome this material is. it's like sinker, indian summer, current and saetia mixed together, and i don't know about you, but that kind of stuff makes me swoon and fall over backwards like them ladies in the old days. really, if you like any of that old emo stuff, you'll break down and cry when you listen to these two songs. then, when you stopped sobbing, get some extra hankys, flip the record over and prepare to be floored again. la quiete, oh boy, they're just awesome. kind of harsh at times but always with amazingly beautiful harmonies. song #2 is unbelievable. the great thing is that is has no vocals for a while, so you can drive around in your car and make up your own. then, the one after that, with the piano?! just makes me want to go run around and fondle myself (even more so than usual). screamo heaven. no, seriously, this is heaven." (review by marianne, heartattack) (35kr/$4)

"this here is a re-issue of one of san diego's most eminent, fundamental bands ever: antioch arrow. this is a cd re-issue of the long time out of print third album gems of masochism. previous to this album (recorded in 1994), they released two other lps with gravity records, which are still in print. they had a huge following in the early hc punk scene, although this album is more moody, melodic, and more akin to wire, the damned and fugazi. myra powers (ex-slant 6) vocalizes on this record as well. so this the chance for you all you second generation white belt, pegged black pants wearing kids to own this record that helped put san diego on the map." DAN MELCHIOR´S BROKE REVUE - GARAGE OBITUARY 7"    (troubleman unlimited)
"we are proud to announce a new band to the troubleman stable of artists: dan melchior´s broke revue. based out of sunny brooklyn, nyc - the broke revue has been around for almost 6 years, and has released three full-lengths on such labels as in the red records. this is the lead single to the upcoming broke revue 2lp/cd on tmu early next year. the band is lead by dan melchior, formerly of holly golightly (and sometimes collaborator with billy childish)... but don't let his garage rock pedigree fool you into thinking this is another garage rehash band! the broke revue´s sound is original and refreshing, marrying the best aspects of country, blues, psych, and r&b with a more extreme sonic approach utilizing the misanthropic fury of 70's punk and the drive of classic 60's catalysts like the stooges and them. throw in a love of the bombast of hip-hop and a unique songwriting voice and you're getting close. truly an original, we are sure you will love this band. this single is strictly limited to 800 copies and will never be repressed!" (40kr/$5)

DEATH SQUAD & HYDRA/BARRIKAD 10"    (segerhuva)
"brilliant combination of the old and new in extreme electronics, featuring barrikad from sweden and a collaboration between death squad and hydra, both from the u.s. the swedish upstart presents three tracks of very heavy and well constructed harsh noise with inspiration lying deep in anarchist ideologies. the already acclaimed u.s. artists offer complex and disturbing power electronics with bass-heavy textures and noises created by death squad and spoken passages delivered by hydra. black vinyl in stylish black/white sleeve with an insert including texts by both acts." (70kr/$9)

ERASE ERRATA - AT CRYSTAL PALACE CD    (troubleman unlimited)
"at crystal palace is the second full length record by san fransisco's erase errata. recorded over two weeks at sf's tiny telephone studios in winter 2003, the album presents a more firmly realized vision of other animals skeletal possibilities. though still high-energy and rocket-fuse quick, the new songs are moodier (good and bad) and more defined. erase errata knows noisy and nice, dancey and disco-shy. erase errata rides on electricity, all twinkling lights and power surges. bianca's drums are steady with shapes like waves, ellie's bass an improbable anchor. sara uses her guitar like scissors and tape. jenny croons fantasy and talks diatribes of the everyday. oh yeah - she plays trumpet too." (100kr/$12)

THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS - SYSTEMS EMERGE FROM COMPLETE DISORDER LP    (troubleman unlimited)
"for more than a decade, this notorious instrumental unit has been destroying puny earthlings with an amorphous fusion of all things extreme and dissonant: hardcore punk intensity, death metal speed and bombast, free jazz density, no wave skronk, electronic noise and modern classical abstraction. since pairing the ensemble down to a one-man unit in late 2002, notorious multi-instrumentalist and composer weasel walter reveals a completely unhindered vision of post-apocalyptic complexity that will stun all who hear it. systems emerge is a dazzling display of violent conceptual virtuosity with ballast and guts to spare, every last detail conceived and executed by one man. the flying luttenbachers was formed by weasel walter in late 1991 and has featured a constantly shifting cast of musicians including ken vandermark (vandermark 5, etc.), fred lonberg-holm (peter brotzmann tentet, etc.), hal russell (nrg ensemble), jeb bishop (vandermark 5, etc.). weasel walter has performed with many other groups and musicians including erase errata, xbxrx, lake of dracula, jim o'rourke, to live and shave in la 1 and 2, bobby conn, cock esp and kevin drumm." description coming soon. (35kr/$4)

FUNERAL DINER/THE SADDEST LANDSCAPE RITES OF SPRING TRIBUTE 7"    (fire walk with me)
"both the saddest landscape and funeral diner are ex-members of more or less popular bands, but that really shouldn't matter. they take one rites of spring song each and make it their own, and they play some pretty bad ass versions." (35kr/$4)

IMMENSE - HIDDEN BETWEEN SLEEVES CD    (conspiracy)
"the immense story is one which scarcely fits the routine band portfolio. we do know that they pretty much work out of bristol. we also remember that a nascent immense dazzled rock’s leftfield with the awesome spontaneous combustion 12" back in 1999. there soon followed the evil ones and zeroes album (like the 12", released on fat cat records), accompanied by a barrowload of critical acclaim and sensational live shows, including a brace in iceland with sigur ros and low. phase one closed with a 10" collaboration with zan lyons, whereupon immense took stock of their position and prepared for phase two. they built a studio in patrick cases garden, made a conscious decision to switch their allegiance from analogue recording to digital recording and sampling and, in the year 2000 commenced work on hidden between sleeves. according to the band, a total of 25 songs were 'created, laughed at, cried over, pulled apart and destroyed' until they eventually, painstakingly, honed it down to nine for this album. and an utterly spectacular array of tracks they are, too. instrumental aficionados will swoon over the deliciously morose godspeed-esque strings (courtesy of the royal college of music) on the bumper book of facts and knowledge and the lilting oriental melodramatics of hms immense. but immense have added another profoundly significant string to their bow in the form of seattle based singer rocky votolato. this splendidly named gentleman is not only the brother of cody from blood brothers, he also recorded a slew of darkly impassioned vocals for tracks such as skitty piano and 22,000. the end result is a complex stew of humane, mellow lulls and ferocious sonic outbursts, the old quiet-loud-quiet formula hosed down, buffed up and dragged into the 21st century." (100kr/$12)

MONNO - CANDLELIGHT TECHNOLOGY CD    (subdeviant)
"monno have made an intense, over-the-top all-instrumental prog masterpiece for the 21st century. from the cover (courtesy of dennis tyfus) to the mindboggling and completely fucked song structures to the tenor sax blowouts, this disc is a must for all adventurous rock listeners ready for something that tops the progressive freakouts of the 1970s. especially if you like the ruins (their heavier, less spastic stuff especially). monno combines the rough grooves of punk music and energeticaly blends the abstract sonorities of computers with a noisy saxaphone, creating a delusive trance like sophomore of rock and noise music. the very dense rhythmical parts become layers of an overall soundscape, each instrument following its own line, but all in harmony to take the listener on a nighttrain to walhalla. for fans of ruins, magma, john zorn, guapo." (100kr/$12)

NEWS 5/11:

CHARM CITY SUICIDES - II CD    (baths of power)
"the final chapter in the charm city suicides history. this is as dirty, and nasty as you could ever imagine. charm city suicides play what bands like the strokes, the datsuns, the d4 and the white stripes only wish they had the guts to do. filthy, back alley, oil stained, garage rock, with more of a fuck you attitude than half the bands these days could only wish to have. this is a total must have if you like, fast, disgusted, pure punk rock. it doesn't get any better than this. they’ve shared stages with some of the top bands of this genre, namely mastodon, the convocation of..., page 99, love life and arab on radar." (50kr/$7)

MADELINE FERGUSON/BURY ME STANDING CD    (slave union)
"bury me standing come back one last time with 6 songs that were recorded shortly before their demise. imagine the brutal metallic hardcore with brains and conscience they were making before, but throw a lot more chaos into the sound. male and female vocals that are absolutely insane (but beautiful when they need to be), truly hammering rythyms, and all out insanity. madeline Ferguson is also back with a new 5-piece lineup that bears little resemblance to the 3-piece lineup on their previous cd. a much more energetic and diverse sound, still as urgent and frantic as before, but with more of an iron maiden influence showing up amongst the rocking and screaming. being emotional never sounded so frightening." (80kr/$10)

(40kr/$5)

MOKIRA - SUEISMINE CDEP    (ideal)
"sueismine is an audio journey that takes our greatfull asses through a soundscape of deep listening with traces to industrial atmospheres but also an even more obvious flirtation with dub music. this is four songs composed by one of the most important artists today in electronic music." (50kr/$6)

TURN PALE - CHANCE 7"    (blue sanct)
"exploring the dark corners of the dancefloor, within a decidedly post-punk aesthetic, turn pale offers their debut single. 'chance' is catchy and danceable ala early p.i.l/the pop group, with a raw, echoing production that invokes a vintage post punk/death rock sound. 'mesmerized' is a cautionary tale of sorts. devilish vocals, tribal beats, and pure emotion swell up. the tower of babel as seen through the virgun prunes or the birthday party." (40kr/$4.50)

TURN PALE - KILL THE LIGHTS CD    (what else?)
"turn pale’s music is a blatant, triumphant celebration of what goth and post punk music was once all about. it is a raw, aggressive, and claustrophobic release. jagged, pounding tribal rhythms, gigantic bass lines, scratchy piercing guitars, and a theatrical vocalist that is not afraid to let loose and scream, wail, and deliver an outright vocal attack. turn pale’s energy is irresistible, unmistakable and contagious. there is a fire lit beneath the collective ass of this band and the result is a collection of music that should, ideally, cause a veritable typhoon of critical praise and interest in the underground and perhaps even in the overground. they might be a little known band of average looking indie rockers from indiana, but they are responsible for some of the most exciting and explosive music since the classic cult bands that influenced them." (100kr/$12)

400 BLOWS - THE SORE THUMB 7"     (gsl)
"los angeles self-proclaimed 'anti-melody' trio 400 blows fire a couple of missives in gsl's direction, sort of like their way of welcoming us to l.a. two brand new tracks recorded by frances miranda (vaz, the icarus line, etc.) in the tre-contemporary 400 blows tradition: taut, relentless grooves, sprinkled with manic, nasal babble... oh yeah! fans of stuff like arab on radar, le shok and holy molar will not want to miss out on 400 blows. did we mention the band were named 'best punk/hardcore band of 2003' by the l.a. weekly?!" (40kr/$5)

CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING 7"     (troubleman unlimited)
"this is a repressing of the debut 7" by the band california lightening. this was originally released a few years ago on sound on sound records in a pressing of 400 copies. the band is a two-piece, comprised of jenny hoysten (vocals/guitar) and bianca sparta (drums), of the band erase errata. musically they take influences from the likes of the beach boys, pink floyd and maybe soft machine... the group began making music and recording together in 1998- from their noise-pop recordings to their dancey and quirky live shows, the band defies definition. this repressing comes as a precursor of sorts to their debut full length, due out on troubleman next year. the songs were remastered from the original tapes, and features brand new cover art." (35kr/$4)

DEATH COMET CREW - DCC AMERICA 12"     (troubleman unlimited)

(35kr/$4)

SOILED DOVES - SOILED LIFE LP     (gsl)
"seattle's soiled doves are history - although the group's brief existence in no way reflects its significance in the scheme of things... the band emerged in the late 1990's as new-wave upstarts the vogue, and by 2001 had mutated (or, rather, condensed) into the 4-piece soiled doves. three of the four doves were soon to be members of the critically-acclaimed chromatics, while vocalist johnny was on loan from local heroes the blood brothers (three one g, second nature). soiled doves released a single on arizona's collectable king of the monsters label, then ventured into seattle's paradox studio to record a full-length. before the album was finished, it was decided that the group would lay itself to rest - johnny's commitment to the brothers was compromising his time, and the band were eager to get on with touring, etc. so, after a single west coast tour in the summer of 2001, soiled doves called it a day." (90kr/$11)

(90kr/$11)

TUSSLE - EYE CONTACT 12"     (troubleman unlimited)
"tussle formed during the spring of 2001 in san francisco as a rhythmic mix of late 70's inspired post punk/disco, repetitive krautrock minimalism and jamaican dub-inspired electronic experimentation. bridging the city's typically segregated but increasingly related art, punk, pop, noise and electronic scenes, their shows which mix structured songs, rarely played exactly the same way twice, and improvised abstractions have been known to lead to the same ends. namely, dance frenzies. The group do not use guitars and reject trad rock posturing. instead, the emphasis is on rhythm and sound, emphasizing propulsive rhythms that are somehow simultaneously stiff and liquid. combined with their abstract use of outdated electronics often used in blurry swathes or reverberating echoes however, the group create a complex dichotomy of sound: simultaneously abstract, hypnotic and disorienting while being immediate and physical." (80kr/$10)

NEWS/RESTOCK 24/10:

DAUGHTERS - CANADA SONGS LP    (electric human project)
"daughters burst forth, middle fingers raised high, with an unreal debut full-length of ultra-brutal grind-influenced screaming chaos. these songs combine so much so quickly that it’s almost dizzying, but they somehow manage to hold it all together and still take it way up a notch. immersed in a genre that’s dangerously close to total overkill, daughters are actually making technical and chaotic music original again, flawlessly combining thunderous drums with inhumanly fast blasts, squealing high-pitched guitars (that can almost be mistaken for keyboards at times) and absolutely manic screams to create a new form of heavy music that’s simply beyond description." (90kr/$11)

THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS - INFECTION AND DECLINE CD    (troubleman unlimited)
"the flying luttenbachers have been destroying puny earthling minds and souls for almost 10 years with an extreme, amorphous and unlikely fusion of hardcore punk anarchy, free jazz assault, death metal bombast, no wave skronk, electronic noise outbursts and modern classical-style abstraction. total energy, speed and fury are primary factors in the music and the luttenbachers avoid normalcy and predictability at all costs. one mere mortal rock critic described the current line-up as 'a violent mutant hybrid between captain beefheart's magic band, bela bartok and the 2nd album napal death'. he was neutralized shortly thereafter. now the world will be slapped in the face by the gauntlet of ultimate wrath: infection and decline, the tenth flying luttenbachers album (and troubleman debut). the maniacal technicality of the playing and overtly bizarre compositions turn a new page in the band's stylistic development. no irony, no smirking, no stupid post-modernism. this album contains the grim, apocalyptic future of punk rock after punk rock has ceased to exist by definition. to hammer the final nail in the coffin, the album concludes with a devastating and faithful 16-minute version of 'de futura', originally recorded by the seminal french prog band magma." (90kr/$11)

'NEW' TERROR CLASS - DID YOU HEAR THAT WE FUCKED... ? LP    (electric human project)
"members of the party of helicopters and harriet the spy combine dark keyboard elements and complex guitarwork alongside plaintive vocals that alternate between spoken and screamed. a considerable amount of acid wit is also thrown into the songs, which have titles such as 'give me your e-mail address, i'll send you some sick shit', 'with an uzi and a 40oz', and 'flying fuck for all'. this lp is the long awaited vinyl version of the cd that was released on troubleman unlimited many days ago." (80kr/$10)

FUNERAL DINER - DIFFERENCE OF POTENTIAL CD/LP     (ape must not kill ape)
"this is a great follow up to the funeral diner/staircase split lp. funeral diner creates a dramatic and moody hardcore assault that is over flowing with passionate and well crafted songs. slightly arty, slightly depressing, very emotive, solidly honest, and intense sounding music that never lets go of their passion. funeral diner will be on a us tour this summer. featuring an ex-member of portraits of past." (90kr/$11)

THE PHANTOM LIMBS - DISPLACEMENT LP     (trans solar)
"cascading keyboards, unnerving guitars, off-kilter rhythms, and the grotesque lyricism of the phantom limbs forge a grandiose monument on the verge of collapse like a gothic cathedral built on quicksand. their unsettling ilk of carny death rock & punk draws comparisons to the screamers and christian death or contemporaries like the subtonix, but don't expect today's glut of punks-with-keyboards playing 80s redux! the phantom limbs have carved out a lonesome place for themselves, finding inspiration in kurt weill rather than duran duran & culture club." (90kr/$11)

THE PHANTOM LIMBS 7" + MONDO BRUTAL #2     (trans solar)
"this 7" features two tracks from the s/t 7" on atakra, one track from the split 7" with the fleshies, and a cover of the screamers '122 hours of fear'. all told there are four songs on this 7". also included is a huge 42 page comic book which is in english and german. for those of you not familiar with the phantom limbs think of a swarm of hornets cascading around with a symphony of manic keyboard craziness complete with a deranged singer spitting blood into your face and you sort of have an idea. good." (60kr/$7)

TOKYO SEX DESTRUCTION - THE BIG RED BOX LP     (trans solar)

THE 244GL - CLUB OF THE SONS LP     (scorched earth policy)
"the 244 gl from germany, 7" and split 7" with zann impressed scorched earth policy so a full length on scorched earth policy is now available. hannas' vocals are very brutal while the music is a mix between the early/mid 90ties bremen sound (acme, carol, systral), off beat heavy shit like coalesce and some gothenburg metal licks. good." (90kr/$11)

CITY OF CATERPILLAR LP     (level plane)
"city of caterpillar's debut LP is finally here. the 7 tracks spread out over 44 minutes sway with hypnotic fury and a nervous energy and passion lacking in a lot of bands these days. city of caterpillar doesn't exist somewhere between the new modern experimental 'classical' music and screamed math-y emotional hardcore, they decided to make their home at both ends of the spectrum simultaneously. to drop some names, if you like godspeed you black emperor or mogwai at one side and the screamy intense stuff like shotmaker on the other, you will love this!" (90kr/$11)

DAVID DONDERO/CHRIS TERRY CDEP     (perpetual motion machine)
"three new classics from dondero, a long time folk veteran, with three full lengths and a previous split ep. conor oberst (bright eyes) said of him, 'he is, in my eyes, carrying on the tradition of american folk music in the fashion of greats like woody guthrie or townes van zandt, while still creating something modern and unique.' chris terry, of va's light the fuse and run and gullible fanzine fame debuts four new acoustic twists on the singer/songwriter genre, with assistance from other local richmond musicians. custom screenprinted art on chipboard, gatefold sleeves." ENVY - A DEAD SINKING STORY 2xLP     (nova)
"once every several years, a band emerges that is so powerful and overwhelming, you are left in awe after a single listen. tokyo, japan's envy is such a band. ten years, hundreds of shows and three lp's after their inception, level-plane is very proud to present their latest effort, a dead sinking story. picking up where all the footsteps you ever left and the fear expecting ahead left off, a dead sinking story is an epic fusion of anger, sadness and strength; a sonic journey through incredible songwriting and newly incorporated electronic soundscapes which give the listener only an inch or two of breathing room. both breathtaking and unrelenting, a dead sinking story clocks in at an epic 62 minutes; this is truly hardcore reserved for the hardcore." (110kr/$13)

FUNERAL DINER - 3 SIDES DEAD CD     (lilac sky)
"cd compiling their 3 split lp's with nexus 6, the shivering and staircase and 3 previously unreleased tracks. 74 minutes of amazing emotive hardcore." (80kr/$10)

KAOSPILOT LP    (level plane)
"proving that arctic conditions are not enough to slow down the manic sounds of hardcore is norway's kaospilot. unlike their country's native black metalers, the band steers clear of absurd bouts of religious denial and mythological imagery in order to deliver pure emotional terrorism. following on the heels of a split 7" with level-plane veterans neil perry and a successful european tour which saw them join forces with hot cross for ten days, kaospilot is no stranger to the level-plane family and pushes the label's diverse sound even further. this is the band's first full length recording and features eleven scintillating bursts of feverish screamy hardcore in the vein of orchid and reversal of man. the band tours extensively around europe and the uk and has tentative plans to tour the united states at some point in the future. this self-titled lp marks the first step in a full sonic assault that will turn hardcore on its ear and force it to look far up north." (90kr/$11)

SHIKARI CDEP    (level plane)
"when bremen, germany stopped producing the loudest and most destructive hardcore bands in existence, it seemed unlikely that any other city would follow up with a suitable and equally scathing alternative. enter shikari and prepare to kneel because your savior has arrived. from the small city of groningen in the netherlands, shikari offers brutality on a scale rarely if ever seen in modern hardcore. recalling elements of the terror once exclusive to acme and incorporating textures found in canadian giants uranus and drift, this 4 song blast is nothing short of audio terrorism, continuing where they left off after a split 10" with dutch punk stalwarts seein red. prepare for obliteration. the countdown starts now." (50kr/$6)

THE SOUTH 7"     (perpetual motion machine)
"four blasting, spastic and urgent tunes from florida's youthful three piece. brutally honest and heartfelt lyrics about the beauty industry, work and coming of age. a wonderful follow-up to their full length which came out last year. think 'palatka with hoover's basslines'." (35kr/$4)

STOP IT!! - SELF MADE MAPS LP     (robotic empire/perpetual motion machine)
"the debut full-length from richmond, va's stop it!! is an undeniably catchy take on dark rock music. going from harsh and frantic to melodic and stoned-out, this cd shows a raw young band with multiple personalities, all overlaid with shouted vocals and the occasional burst of beautiful harmonies. a fantastically detailed cut-and-pasted layout is housed in a paperboard pack accompanied by a 12-page booklet and perfectly reflects the urgency of this inspiring music." (90kr/$11)

2 LEGS BAD. 38 LEGS GOOD 7"    (magic bullet)

WITH LOVE/THE EXELAR LP     (plenge)
"with love deliver noisy chaos in vein on early black dice or arab on radar, a lot of feedback, wall of sound, etc. 'fans' of stuff released on load or wantage usa will be pleased. the exelar from the us play fast, chaotic emotice hardcore with a blend of melody. a nice split!" (90kr/$11)
